TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian Military (TNI) is preparing to establish hundreds of kitchens to support the government’s free nutritious meals program. Major General Hariyanto, Head of the TNI Information Center, announced that the goal is to complete 100 kitchens by the end of December 2024.
“The TNI has prepared 514 potential locations on the Indonesian Army’s (TNI AD) land, and 84 of these sites have already been processed for the free nutritious food program,” he stated in a recent interview on Monday, November 25, 2024.
He stopped short of specifying locations for these kitchens. However, he assured that the TNI is committed to launching 100 free nutritious food kitchens by early 2025.
“We plan to inaugurate 100 free meal locations on January 2, 2025,” he confirmed.
Amid the kitchen preparations, the TNI has already conducted a pilot program for the free nutritious food program in the Hambalang area of West Java.
The Indonesian Air Force (TNI AU) is also actively involved in this endeavor. They recently inaugurated the "Healthy Kitchen of the Indonesian Nation" at the Halim Perdanakusuma Air Base complex in East Jakarta.
Air Marshal M. Tonny Harjono, Chief of Staff of the Indonesian Air Force, personally inspected the kitchen renovation process on November 20, 2024. In an official statement, he highlighted the improvements made to the cooking facilities, including the addition of modern equipment and a focus on cleanliness and efficiency.
“These are expected to further elevate the quality of the food served, both in terms of hygiene and nutritional value,” Tony said in a written statement on Monday, November 25, 2024.
The free nutritious food program is one of the campaign promises of President Prabowo Subianto and Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka, which is scheduled to commence in early 2025. The Indonesian government has allocated a budget of Rp71 trillion from the State Budget to support this initiative.
