TEMPO.CO, JakartaThe Immigration Directorate General has announced the upcoming launch of a redesigned passport “Merah Putih” on August 17, 2025, coinciding with Indonesia's Independence Day. This new passport incorporates elements of batik and advanced security features.

“This issuance reflects our effort to strengthen our passport in accordance with international standards and recommendations,” said Saffar Muhammad Godam, Acting Director General of Immigration, during a press conference held at his office on Tuesday, December 17, 2024.

Saffar explained that the new passport features a durable, heat-resistant, and flexible cover, enhancing its overall security and minimizing the risk of damage or misuse.

The Immigration Directorate General showcased this new passport design at the ICAO Traveler Identification Programme (TRIP) Symposium in Montreal, Canada, in mid-November 2024. The symposium was attended by representatives from 193 ICAO member countries, including Indonesia.

Anggiat Napitupulu, Director of Immigration Cooperation, who participated as a panelist at the symposium, highlighted the innovative features of the latest generation of Indonesian e-passports, which not only function as travel documents but also as representations of Indonesian identity and culture.

“The new Indonesian passport is equipped with advanced security features, such as the integration of 33 traditional batik motifs printed with specialized technology. These motifs serve not only as aesthetic elements but also as crucial security measures,” explained Anggiat.

He further emphasized that the passport's embedded chip, connected to a radio antenna, enhances data security by enabling the secure storage of biometric data and digital signatures. “The use of a polycarbonate-based biodata page further enhances the passport's durability and makes it more resistant to counterfeiting,” he added.
