TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Central Jakarta Metro Police will conduct an exhumation of the grave of a baby suspected of being swapped at the Jakarta Islamic Hospital Cempaka Putih, today. Exhumation officers will take DNA samples to prove the allegations of the baby's parents, MR, who said that their babies were swapped.
Currently, the police have not dismantled the grave because they are still waiting for the arrival of the victim's family. "It hasn't started (the exhumation). The family hasn't arrived," said Head of the Central Jakarta Police, Commissioner Muhammad Firdaus at the Semper Public Cemetery (TPU), Cilincing, North Jakarta, Tuesday, December 17, 2024.
Firdaus said that the exhumation could not be carried out without the presence of the baby's parents. "Still waiting," he said.
At the exhumation location, a forensic team from the Police Hospital was present, as were the Cilincing Police and Cempaka Putih Police, who also guarded the area around the grave. Deputy Chairperson of the Indonesian Child Protection Commission (KPAI) Jasra Putra was also seen at the location.
Previously, the family and the hospital had mediated regarding the alleged swapped babies. The baby's parents wanted to make sure that the baby declared dead by the hospital was really their child or not.
Three months after the mediation efforts did not produce satisfactory results, MR, the baby's father, went viral on the case. He has repeatedly asked for CCTV evidence and medical records to convince him that the baby declared dead was really his.
"I've been back and forth three times and their answer is just to wait. We just want certainty," said MR.
The man said that he had not been tested for DNA according to the promise made by the hospital in resolving the alleged swapped babies. "Until now there has been no more talk about the DNA test," he said.
