TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Louisiana has filed a lawsuit against Roblox, accusing the gaming platform of fostering an online environment where child predators thrive. State officials argue that this environment has directly contributed to the widespread victimization of minors in Louisiana.
According to The Verge, Roblox has in recent months introduced new safety measures, such as parental accounts that allow guardians to manage their children’s profiles—including blocking certain friends. However, Louisiana claims the company has failed to properly enforce these safeguards.
The complaint accuses Roblox of “directly facilitating the widespread sexual exploitation of minors, causing severe and lasting harm to Louisiana’s children.”
Attorney General Liz Murrill said Roblox is rife with harmful content and child predators, blaming the company for prioritizing user growth, revenue, and profit over child safety.
“Every parent should be aware of the clear and present danger poised to their children by Roblox so they can prevent the unthinkable from ever happening in their own home,” Murrill said.
Roblox spokesperson Kadia Koroma denied the allegations, saying tens of millions of people use the platform daily to learn STEM skills, play, imagine, and enjoy safe experiences.
“The assertion that Roblox would intentionally put our users at risk of exploitation is categorically untrue,” Koroma said.
She emphasized that the company invests heavily in safety infrastructure, including advanced technology and 24/7 human moderation, to detect and block harmful content and behavior.
“We dispute these allegations and we remain committed to working with Attorney General Murrill to keep kids safe,” she added.
Koroma also noted that Roblox enforces strict protections, such as limiting the sharing of personal information, links, and images between users. Still, she acknowledged that bad actors often try to bypass these systems to lure children off the platform.
“We continuously work to block those efforts and to enhance our moderation approaches to promote a safe and enjoyable environment for all users,” Koroma said.
