TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Airlangga Hartarto, the Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs, is confident that Indonesia will achieve the economic growth target of 5.2 percent as defined under the 2025 State Budget.
The minister said this optimism is supported by the report of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), which predicts the same growth rate.
"The OECD projection shares similar optimism,” said the former Golkar Party chief on Tuesday, December 10, 2024.
Nevertheless, the government will also strive to pursue President Prabowo Subianto’s 8 percent economic growth target. "Thus, we also promote the manufacturing sector and the exports of some natural resources, downstream, and palm oil," he said.
In addition, Airlangga also expressed the need to increase productivity, including labor productivity. Likewise, the development of interconnected infrastructure must resume to help achieve better economic growth in the future.
Furthermore, Airlangga stated that 8 percent economic growth is not only an aspiration of Indonesia but also of neighboring country Vietnam. In fact, Vietnam has now achieved 7 percent economic growth.
"Several countries have targeted 8 percent growth, including our neighbor Vietnam, and they are currently able to reach around 7 percent, so this is certainly challenging," said Airlangga.
