TEMPO.CO, Padang, West Sumatra - The Volcanological Survey of Indonesia (PVMBG) reported the activity of Mount Marapi in Tanah Datar District and Agam District, West Sumatra, has been increasing since October 7, 2024.

"It is correct; since October 7, 2024, there has been an increase in volcanic earthquakes which indicates an increase in the activity of Mount Marapi," a monitoring officer of Mount Marapi, Teguh, said in Bukittinggi, West Sumatra, on Sunday.

With the increase in activity, the PVMBG, through Gunung Marapi Volcano Post (PGA), recorded several eruptions. From Sunday morning to afternoon, the PGA recorded four eruptions.

The first eruption occurred at 07:00 a.m. local time (UTC+7) with an ash column of around 1,000 meters above the peak of the mount, moving towards the West.

This eruption was recorded on a seismogram with a maximum amplitude of 27 millimeters with a duration of about two minutes and 11 seconds.

The PVMBG then recorded the second eruption at 07:36 a.m. with an ash column of around 800 meters above the mount's peak. The eruption was recorded with a maximum amplitude of 3.6 millimeters with a duration of about one minute and 10 seconds on a seismogram.
