While Justin Fields' spot as the Jets' starting quarterback is secure, an injury to his primary backup forced the team to try out two quarterbacks on Thursday.

Veteran passer Tyrod Taylor is set to miss the remainder of training camp after undergoing a knee scope this week.

The procedure was deemed 'minor' by head coach Aaron Glenn, though the former Lions defensive coordinator has been noncommittal on whether or not he'll be ready for Week 1 against the Steelers.

'Hopefully, he'll be ready for Week 1,' Glenn told reporters on Tuesday.

With that uncertainty surrounding Taylor's status, the Jets brought in quarterbacks Nathan Peterman and C.J. Beathard for workouts on Thursday.

Peterman, who was on the Falcons' practice squad last year, was a fifth-round pick in 2017 and has appeared in 15 games (five starts) in stints with the Bills, Raiders and Bears.

Justin Fields remains the team's starter after signing a two-year, $40million deal with the team

Four of Peterman's starts came in Buffalo, where he actually competed with Taylor for the starting job during his rookie season.

Beathard, meanwhile, ended last season with the Jaguars after being re-signed from the Dolphins' practice squad.

The 2017 third-rounder has 32 career appearances (13 starts) in time with the 49ers and Jaguars, and made 10 starts for San Francisco in his first two seasons.

Both he and Peterman have not seen the field since the 2023 season, for Jacksonville and Chicago respectively.

The Jets also have quarterbacks Adrian Martinez and Brady Cook listed as third and fourth respectively on their depth chart.

Nonetheless, Fields seems to be entrenched as the team's starter after signing a two-year, $40million contract with the team in free agency.

He went 4-2 in six starts last season for the Steelers and flashed his incredible rushing ability, but he was ultimately replaced by Russell Wilson - who was always meant to be the starter but missed time with a calf injury.

Now, Wilson is also in New York with the Giants as both look to hit the ground running with their new teams.

Fields and the Jets will host Aaron Rodgers and the Steelers on September 7.
