TEMPO.CO, Palembang - The Palembang Police have deployed 542 officers to maintain security during the 2025 Chinese New Year celebrations, which fall on Wednesday, January 29, 2025.

This was announced by Palembang Police Chief Senior Commissioner Harryo Sugihhartono during a roll call held at the Palembang Police Headquarters. “A total of 522 Palembang Police officers and 20 personnel from the Ditsamapta Polda Sumsel will be on duty,” he stated in a press release received by Tempo on Tuesday, January 28, 2025.

Harryo explained that 73 locations across Palembang will be under heightened security during the Chinese New Year celebrations. These locations include 46 temples, 25 monasteries, and two hotels that will host celebratory events. “We will prioritize security at these key locations,” he emphasized.

To ensure a peaceful and secure celebration, Harryo urged the public to refrain from any activities that could disrupt the festivities. “Please avoid any unwanted incidents, including excessive celebrations that may lead to illegal racing or brawls,” the Palembang Police Chief advised.

Furthermore, he encouraged all residents of Palembang to embrace the city's diverse cultural tapestry as Palembang is home to a rich blend of cultures, ethnicities, and religions.

“We urge all religious communities to respect one another so this celebration will take place solemnly,” he concluded.
