TEMPO.CO, JakartaPresident Prabowo Subianto said online gambling, drugs, smuggling, fund embezzlement, corruption, and budget leaks are major threats to Indonesia. According to him, these problems can be eradicated with the support of a strong defense and law enforcement.

"(The eradication) must be supported by a strong defense and unwavering law enforcement," said Prabowo in the plenary Cabinet Meeting at the Presidential Office, Jakarta, on Wednesday, October 23, 2024, as quoted from Antara.

He instructed the Attorney General, the Chief of the Indonesian National Police, the Financial and Development Supervisory Agency (BPKP), and the State Intelligence Agency (BIN) to concentrate on these serious threats.

"Only with unyielding law enforcement, good intelligence, and strong evidence can we swiftly mitigate these problems," said the former Minister of Defense.

Prabowo’s assertion about major threats to Indonesia has been previously voiced during his inaugural speech. The president emphasized the importance of corruption and collusion eradication, as well as addressing budget leaks and fund embezzlement with strong determination and transparency.

"Let’s self-reflect and look in the mirror bravely to improve and correct ourselves. We must face the fact that there are still too many (budget) leaks, embezzlement, and corruption in our country," said Prabowo in his inaugural speech on Sunday, October 20.

Although Indonesia has achieved some global accolades, such as being part of the G20 and being the world's 16th largest economy, he went on, many domestic issues still need to be addressed. These include poverty, malnutrition, and education.

He then called on all parties to unite and work together in facing the challenges ahead. "Let us come together and unite to find the solutions and the way out of these threats and dangers," said Prabowo.
