PSG vs Tottenham - Super Cup Final: Live score, team news and updates as Spurs blow two-goal lead AND shootout advantage in Thomas Frank's first match in charge as Champions League winners triumph

Follow Daily Mail Sport's live blog for the latest score, team news and updates as PSG take on Tottenham in the UEFA Super Cup at the Bluenergy Stadium in Udine, Italy.

PSG are the champions, my friends

What a banger.

Queen's We Are The Champions is now blasting out of the speakers, and I am fighting with every fibre of my being not to sing and dance along.

If I weren't working, I would be turning into prime Freddie Mercury.

But I am, and instead I will tell you that the PSG players are having a right good time down on that pitch.

The trophy is being passed around, and every single player has a smile the width of the River Seine on their face.

What a night for the boys in blue and red.

Here come the champions

As I was typing that last post, the Tottenham players picked up their medals as quickly as possible.

Now, it's time for the champions to take to the podium.

Luis Enrique has a beaming smile on his face as he picks up his medal, and I'm sure that won't be going anywhere anytime soon.

Now, Marquinhos is handed the Super Cup trophy, and he starts having a dance as he greets his team-mates, and up goes the trophy.

Let's hope there is no pitch invasion this time...

Sickening for Spurs

The Tottenham players look devastated.

Many of them are either sitting on the floor or staring into space motionless. They almost looked shocked that they have managed to lose that game.

Now, many of you may call that 'Spursy' (if that's even a thing anymore), but that's not the case in my eyes.

Spurs were excellent for 84 minutes tonight; they were outplaying the side that many regard as the best in Europe.

There are so many positives to take from tonight; they were excellent, and Thomas Frank's tactics were working a treat.

But of course, trophies are the currency of success in football, and Tottenham are ending the night with just silver medals.

This will be hard to take for those players.

'Spurs fans not sticking around'

By Matt Barlow At The Bluenergy Stadium

Not many Spurs fans sticking around for the trophy lift...

First-time winners

PSG could get used to this.

As I type this, their players are dancing to music in front of their adoring fans, who have set off flares.

The scenes aren't quite as mental as they were in Munich in May, but they are still having a pretty good time.

This is the first time they have ever won the UEFA Super Cup, and what is mental is that they have only been back in training for a week.

I mean, it looked like it based on their performance, but they still got teh job done.

Another piece of silverware for the mantlepiece.

More European glory for Les Parisiens

Well, PSG have done it again.

Luis Enrique's side looked down and out with less than 10 minutes to go in normal time. They were 2-0 down, and Spurs looked comfortable at the back.

But this is PSG, you should never count them out until it's all over.

They made the comeback,

Once Lee Kang-In netted the first goal, you just had a feeling that Spurs would capitulate, and well, they did.

Penalties are just pot luck, but there is also an element of dealing with the pressure, which PSG ultimately did better than Spurs.

Freed From Desire is now playing, and the party has started.

PSG WIN 4-3 ON PENALTIES!

Nuno Mendes to win it for PSG...

HE HAS DONE IT!

The Champions League winners come back from the dead to break Tottenham hearts.

PENS: PSG 3-3 Tottenham

Pedro Porro HAS to score.

And he sticks it right into the top corner.

Nerves of steel.

PENS: PSG 3-2 Tottenham

Can Lee Kang-In put PSG in front in this shootout for the first time?

Yes. He. Can.

Struck into the bottom corner with aplomb.

PENS: PSG 2-2 Tottenham

Here comes Mathys Tel...

Another big run up, he takes his time, stutters... and misses.

Yikes, that's an awful pen.

PENS: PSG 2-2 Tottenham

Can Osumane Dembele level the shootout?

You bet he can!

Never in doubt.

PENS: PSG 1-2 Tottenham

Mickey van de Ven steps up to the spot.

It's a big run up... and it's SAVED by Lucas Chevalier.

PENS: PSG 1-2 Tottenham

PSG's hero is now up for the French side.

Goncalo Ramos takes a deep breath and smashes the ball down the middle.

PENS: PSG 0-2 Tottenham

Rodrigo Bentancur ambles up to the spot, places it down... and absolutely buries his penalty. No saving that.

Two to the good.

PENS: PSG 0-1 Tottenham

Now it's the turn of Vitinha, can he level things up?

NO HE CAN'T!

He stutters, sends Vicario the wrong way... but sticks it wide.

PENS: PSG 0-1 Tottenham

Here comes Dominic Solanke... and he plants it top bins.

What a pen that is.

Advantage, Spurs

A huge cheer breaks out from teh Tottenham end.

Why?

Well, they have just realised that Cristian Romero has won teh toss, and the penalties will be taken at their end.

Dominic Solanke to take first... can he hold his nerve?

Tough for Tottenham

What will be going on inside teh Spurs players' heads?

They were almost five minutes from glory, and now they have to get ready for a penalty shootout.

It must be so hard to sort your head out for that...

Mine would be all over the gaff, but that's why behind this keyboard and not on that pitch.

FULL-TIME: PSG 2-2 Tottenham

To penalties we go.

Tottenham had one and a half hands on the Super Cup with six minutes to go, and looked destined to lift a second trophy in 12 weeks.

But PSG are never down and out, and they ripped those Spurs hands off late on.

Now, it's just potluck from the spot.

PSG 2-2 Tottenham

Cristian Romero senses the danger and decides he has 'cramp'.

Smart move, because PSG were heading straight for the Spurs box there.

The PSG fans are not happy with the Argentinian.

PSG 2-2 Tottenham

PSG could still win this, you know.

They aren't giving up on finding a winner and are heading straight on the attack in search of one.

Football, eh?

Goal:PSG 2-2 Tottenham (Ramos 90+4')

Heartbreak for Spurs.

Now, that is the PSG we have been waiting to see all evening, wow.

The French side have fought back from nowhere to complete a fightback right at the death.

Ousmane Dembele fires a ferocious ball across the box, and Goncalo Ramos heads home.

Sickening for Tottenham.

PSG 1-2 Tottenham

Tottenham have absolutely everybody back, all 10 outfield players are practically in their own box.

Spurs really are clinging on here...

SIX added minutes

Squeaky bum time.

This is going to feel like a very long six minutes for Spurs, as Lucas Bergvall enters the action.

Can they hold on?

YELLOW CARD: PSG 1-2 Tottenham

Come on...

Ibrahim Mbaye may be young, but he should still know that diving isn't a good thing.

Kevin Danso gives him teh smallest of touches in the box, and Mbaye flops to the floor.

Ousmane Dembele then goes AWOL at the ref and gets a booking.

PSG 1-2 Tottenham

It's wave after wave of Tottenham attacks now; Spurs are like a surfer in Bali trying to survive.

Nuno Mendes has a dig from distance, but his effort takes a big deflection and goes over the bar.

PSG 1-2 Tottenham

The PSG fans are really having a party now; there are even some flares going off.

Do they know that they are still losing? I think somebody needs to tell them.

This is going to be a tense few minutes, mind.

PSG 1-2 Tottenham

I reckon a few of you Spurs fans will be annoyed that I didn't keep my mouth shut, right?

Once again, my text commentator's curse has struck again.

All of a sudden, PSG have some hope, and the fans are singing yet again.

They couldn't, could they?

Goal:PSG 1-2 Tottenham (Lee 85')

Erm... what was I saying again?

I'm sorry, Tottenham fans, I spoke too soon, as I always seem to do.

Lee Kang-In gives PSG a shred of hope as he rifles one hell of a strike into the bottom corner. That is some hit.

Now, we finally have a game on our hands.

PSG 0-2 Tottenham

It's all hands to the pump for Spurs now.

PSG are pinning Tottenham back now as they push for two late goals.

But to be honest, they don't look like scoring. Spurs seem pretty comfortable at the back.

OUCH! PSG 0-2 Tottenham

Ooooft, now that has got to hurt.

Lee Kang-In nails a free-kick straight into the Spaniard's face, and you can hear an audible scream from the full-back.

But is he being dramatic?

The replay shows that the ball actually hits his shoulder, and he has dived to teh deck for no reason. Cheeky lad.

SUBSTITUTION: PSG 0-2 Tottenham

Take a bow, Mohammad Kudus.

The Ghanian put in one hell of a shift tonight, and the Tottenham fans give him a standing ovation.

Mathys Tel is now on in his place.

PSG 0-2 Tottenham

That sums up Ousmane Dembele's night.

He does manage to have a decent little run toward the box, but his final product stinks.

He passes the ball straight to Cristian Romero, then looks at the floor in dismay.

Not. His. Night.

SUBSTITUTION: PSG 0-2 Tottenham

Desire Doue's night is done, and I'm surprised he has lasted this long with how bad he has been.

The youngster trudges around the pitch like a child who knows he has done something wrong.

Goncalo Ramos replaces him.

SUBSTITUTION: PSG 0-2 Tottenham

Here comes Dominic Solanke.

Richarlison has put in one hell of a shift, but his night is over as Solanke replaces him.

Let's see how the big man fares when crosses come his way.

Meanwhile, Joao Palhinha makes way for Archie Gray, who is finally actually playing in his preferred position.

PSG 0-2 Tottenham

PSG have finally woken up.

Ousmane Dembele has been anonymous in this game, honestly, like he is under Harry Potter's invisibility cloak.

But he takes it off for one second to have a pop at goal... and it goes well wide.

Get back under that cloak, Ousmane.

SUBSTITUTION: PSG 0-2 Tottenham

That's the last we will see of Bradley Barcola.

Within a minute of seeing his goal chalked off, he is running off the pitch to be replaced by Ibrahim Mbaye.

That may be the quickest he has run all game... only joking, that boy has a set of wheels on him.

Warren Zaire-Emery is also off, with Lee Kang-In coming on.

DISALLOWED GOAL! - PSG

Ohhhh....

Bradley Barcola thinks he has pulled one back for the Parisians as he drills the ball into the back of the net.

But nope, the flag is up.

Fabian Ruiz is stupidly offside when he really doesn't need to be, in the build-up.

Silly, silly boy.

PSG 0-2 Tottenham

Mickey van de Ven is putting his body on the line.

PSG suddenly realise they need to actually attack to begin a fightback, and Warren Zaire-Emery's eyes light up when the ball drops to him in the box.

But within a split second, he sees Van de Ven throw his body in the way of his shot, before Spurs clear.

This is some performance from the Lilywhites.

PSG 0-2 Tottenham

PSG couldn't defend a throw-in from me, let alone from Kevin Danso, right now.

Maybe that's dramatic, but yet again the defender causes chaos by launching one into the box.

Lucas Chevaliar is forced into a save, but the whistle is blown for a foul in the box by Mohammad Kudus.

These set-pieces are causing utter carnage.

SUBSTITUTION: PSG 0-2 Tottenham

Khvicha Kvaratskhelia is not a happy bunny.

The Georgian winger has had an absolute mare tonight. I mean, it's the worst I have seen him play in a PSG shirt.

And now he storms to his seat on the bench as he is replaced by Fabian Ruiz.

The front four simply didn't work...

CLOSE! PSG 0-2 Tottenham

Oooft, that's not far away.

Pedro Porro decides against finding Cristian Romero from the free-kick this time, and instead has a crack himself.

It's a decent crack, I have to say, as the ball bends only just wide of the post.

But the ball did take a deflection, so Spurs have a corner... which is wasted.

YELLOW CARD: PSG 0-2 Tottenham

Now, Pacho goes into the book.

The lad needs a ticket to get back into the stadium after being roasted by Pape Sarr.

So what does he do? Hacks him down.

YELLOW CARD: PSG 0-2 Tottenham

Erm... has the ref booked the right player?

Desire Doue clips the heels of Richarlison, but it's Bradley Barcola who gets a yellow card.

Maybe he said something outrageous, or the ref doesn't have his contact lenses in...

I mean, they look nothing like each other.

PENALTY CLAIM! PSG 0-2 Tottenham

Oooooo...

Pedro Porro is screaming for a penalty as he goes to ground in the box under pressure from Pacho.

But, I'm sorry, you are never getting that. Porro is looking for it.

CLOSE! PSG 0-2 Tottenham

Do PSG know how to defend crosses? Evidently not.

Spurs fans think they have a third as Kevin Danso looks like he has nodded the ball in at the back post.

But the ball actually hits the side-netting, and teh celebrations only last about two seconds.

But jeez, PSG simply can't deal with these crosses and set pieces.

Are they Man United in disguise?

PSG 0-2 Tottenham

Yeahhhhh, we love this.

This game has been waiting to explode, and now there is a bit of needle. About time.

Guess who is at the centre of it all? Yep, Cristian Romero.

He squares up to Khvicha Kvaratskhelia after the PSG man nearly overhead kicks |Mickey van de Ven in the head.

Handbags time!

Goal:PSG 0-2 Tottenham (Romero 48')

TOTTENHAM ARE IN DREAMLAND!

The Europa League champions are two goals to the good against teh Champions League champions.

Wow, just wow.

It's a set-piece again as Pedro Porro floats a free-kick to teh back post, and captain Cristian Romerio nods home.

Lucas Chevalier really should save the header, mind.

Romero doesn't care, though, and goes absolutely bananas in celebration. Too, right.

CHANCE! PSG 0-1 Tottenham

This is not teh Desire Doue that I tipped to win the Ballon d'Or... he is having an absolute stinker.

I barely saw him on the ball in teh first half, and he starts the second by playing Richarlison through on goal.

The Brazilian stings the palms of Lucas Chevalier.

SECOND HALF: PSG 0-1 Tottenham

Jeez, that was a quick break.

The players are already back out into the humid Bluenergy Stadium, and we are back underway.

Can Spurs hold on to end their three-month trophy drought?

'A completely different Tottenham'

Glenn Hoddle, former Tottenham forward, on TNT Sports:

Overall, Spurs tactically, the structure is really good. At the moment, the way they have been set up is a completely different Tottenham. We thoroughly deserve to be one up.

Set-piece Spurs

I thought Tottenham were meant to be bad at set pieces.

Under Ange Postecoglou, they were pants at them offensively and defensively. It was one of their worst traits.

Well, that's not the case under Thomas Frank.

They now look more like their north London rivals, Arsenal. Spurs have been causing PSG so many problems through free-kicks and long throws.

Eventually, one was bound to lead to a goal, and it did.

WATCH: Van de Ven strickes for Spurs

Just look at those celebrations.

The moment that Palinha hit teh woodwork, I took my hands away from my keyboard and put them to my head.

But then along came Mickey van de Ven, who made me put my hands back to work almost instantly.

Great reactions from the big man.

HALF-TIME: PSG 0-1 Tottenham

So far, so good for Tottenham.

If you were to tell me at the start of this game that Spurs would be leading PSG at half-time following a dominant display, I may well have laughed.

Well, Thomas Frank is the one laughing now.

His tactics have been spot on, and Tottenham have put in a perfect performance in Udine so far.

Can they keep it going after the break?

OFF THE POST! PSG 0-1 Tottenham

Ohhhhh... I thought that was two.

I can't believe it, Mohammad Kudus can't believe it, and the Spurs fans can't believe it.

Richarlison does brilliantly to nod the ball onto Kudus, who dives toward it like Tom Daley in his prime.

The Ghanaian reaches it, but his header crashes against the post.

PSG 0-1 Tottenham

Spurs have some player in Mohammad Kudus, what a baller.

He produces a cheeky bit of skill to get some space down teh right, before lofting a ball into the box.

But the ball floats over everybody, which is a shame, because the skill deserved better than that.

'Spurs look sharper'

By Matt Barlow At The Bluenergy Stadium

Spurs have looked dangerous from set plays, which will please Frank. They also look sharper than PSG... no surprise for a team who are six games into the pre-season schedule against a team just back from the beach... and both those factors was evident in the goal.

PSG 0-1 Tottenham

'Oh boy, this could be a long night for Tottenham, looking at this team.'

That's what I said when I saw the Tottenham team news, and now I feel like an idiot.

Nothing new then, eh?

But seriously, I didn't see this happening, but Spurs have been superb so far and are well worth their lead.

Goal:PSG 0-1 Tottenham (Van de Ven 39')

TOTTENHAM HIT THE FRONT!

It's been coming, you have to say, and now Mickey van de Ven has Spurs well on their way to a second trophy in just three months. Yep.

W nods a free-kick into the danger zone, and Palhinha sees Lucas Chevalier tip his effort onto the bar.

The ball bounces back out to Van de Ven, and he slides the ball into an unguarded net.

Who saw this coming?

PSG 0-0 Tottenham

PSG really are struggling to break this Tottenham side down.

Gone are the days of ridiculously high lines with nine men. It was fun while it lasted.

Thomas Frank's side now sit back and cause chaos on the counter. I like it.

PSG 0-0 Tottenham

Djed Spence is everywhere.

The kid is just so fast, he reminds me of the character Roadrunner - please tell me you know who that is.

But oh, just as I'm praising him, he gets nutmegged by Ousmane Dembele. Oops.

Demebel's shot nearly ends up on Mars, though.

PSG 0-0 Tottenham

I honestly am not sure what is going on...

Tottenham are actually outplaying PSG. Yep, that is a real sentence, and it's hard to believe.

But Spurs really are on top, and Djed Spence nearly sets up a chance by managing to beat Achraf Hakimi to the ball in the box, but his cross is blocked.

Yes, he beat Hakimi in a race... I know, mental.

PSG 0-0 Tottenham

That's brilliant from Pape Matar Sarr.

Bradley Barcola is on his bike, and his wheels are turning like Bradley Wiggins in his prime.

He burns past Kevin Danso before looking to put the ball into the danger area.

But Sarr comes from nowhere and manages to put the ball behind for a corner, which comes to nothing.

PSG 0-0 Tottenham

And another chance, hooray.

From the corner, Rodrigo Bentancur gets his noggin on the ball to scare Lucas Chevlier briefly.

But his header dips just wide, and now the two teams are off for a water break.

It's so humid in Udine, I feel like I am travelling in Bangkok.

CHANCE! PSG 0-0 Tottenham

Oh yeah, now that's what we want!

Richarlison has given me something to talk about, at last.

Spurs spring a threatening counter on PSG and Richarlison plays a lovely little give-and-go with Mohammad Kudus.

When he gets the ball back, he just has a pop first time from 25 yards out, which nearly catches Lucas Chevalier out.

But the keeper sorts himself out to tip over the bar.

PSG 0-0 Tottenham

You know a game has not been eventful when there are literally no photographs of any chances to post.

All the pictures are just players wrestling with each other, that's it.

If these guys don't give the photographers something to snap soon, this blog is going to look so blank.

Soccer Football - UEFA Super Cup - Final - Paris St Germain v Tottenham Hotspur - Bluenergy Stadium, Udine, Italy - August 13, 2025 Paris St Germain's Warren Zaire-Emery in action with Tottenham Hotspur's Pape Matar Sarr REUTERS/Jennifer Lorenzini

PSG 0-0 Tottenham

That's an attack, of sorts. Just not a good one.

Djked Spence tries to answer my rally call, but after giving the ball to Pape Matar Sarr, the move ends in a PSG goal kick.

Yep, not great.

PSG 0-0 Tottenham

I'm going to say it... this game is boring.

Yes, I know my job is to hype it up as much as possible, but there is literally nothing to hype up.

I could post like, 'Dejd Spence has made a pass, and Richarlison passes back to him.'

But who wants to read that?

PSG 0-0 Tottenham

Well, the promising start has drifted away.

Not to moan too early, but if I think about it, not that much has happened in this game.

Yes, there have been momentum changes, but it's just been a whole lot of passing from both teams.

Come on lads, let's see some chances...

PSG 0-0 Tottenham

I am the ultimate jinx.

I don't know why I haven't learned from my former mistakes, because every time I have a pop at a team, they always start playing well straight after.

PSG have certainly woken up now are having all the ball. Spurs are suddenly struggling to get the ball.

This game has become more like what we were expecting.

'Frank vocal'

By Matt Barlow At The Bluenergy Stadium

Frank very active and vocal on the touchline. Yelling instructions and conferring with coaching staff... In his standards issue white polo and black slacks he looks as if he could be working for UEFA but his team have made a purposeful start.

CHANCE! PSG 0-0 Tottenham

OK, OK, normal service resumed.

PSG finally get the ball and show what they are about with one hell of a move.

There is some superb one-touch passing around the Spurs box, and Warren Zaire-Emery manages to slide the ball to Khvicha Kvaratskhelia.

But the Georgian falls over while pulling the trigger and the ball rolls wide.

PSG 0-0 Tottenham

Tottenham really have started well.

The Londoners are knocking the ball about nicely, and PSG can't seem to get near them.

Am I dreaming? I feel like I am.

'Long live Frankball'

By Matt Barlow At The Bluenergy Stadium

Opening seconds and Vicario launches it long. Three mins in and Kevin Danso hurls a long throw into the PSG box... Angeball is dead. Long live Frankball.

PSG 0-0 Tottenham

Well, I was not expecting this.

It is Spurs that are taking the game to PSG, not the other way around. I know, shocking, right?

A long throw is pumped into the PSG box, and it causes chaos, with Cristian Romero very nearly getting a good header to the ball.

But the French side clear, eventually.

CHANCE! PSG 0-0 Tottenham

Oooft, what a start that would have been.

PSG nearly get off to a horrific start as they give the ball away at the back, with Pedro Porro picking it up in acres of space.

But as soon as it rolled his way, I reckon the PSG players took a sigh of relief... well, certainly as he cocks his leg to shoot.

Porro is way too eager to shoot and bends the ball over the bar.

KICK-OFF: PSG 0-0 Tottenham

There is a huge banner showing which says: 'Stop killing Children, stop killing civilians.'

Which I presume is a call to stop the conflict in Gaza.

The players take a little while to get ready as we start a couple of minutes later here in Udine.

But finally, off we go.

'Lange and Paratici here'

By Matt Barlow At The Bluenergy Stadium

Spurs technical director Johan Lange and his predecessor Fabio Paratici side by side in the posh seats here... Paratici is clear to make an official return to football after his FIFA ban expired last month...

Spurs and PSG march in

Oh, when the...

You know the tune, but I imagine only the Tottenham fans in this blog will want to sing it.

Both teams are ready, and now they emerge from the tunnel to a cauldron of noise. The atmosphere is bouncing,

New Spurs captain Cristian Romero picks up teh Europa League trophy, while Marquinhos gets a hold of Ol' Big Ears with flags waving about in the background.

I have to say, the Super Cup song is a bit of a bop, too, but it is being drowned out by the PSG fans.

Nothing new.

'Tottenham trumpet tooting'

By Matt Barlow At The Bluenergy Stadium

The trumpeter is tooting out the Spurs anthem... PSG fans booing away. Spurs have not sold their 6500 ticket allocation for this one but they're making a good noise and waving their flags.
Kick off looming and the temperature is down a notch to 28C in Udine. It has been sweltering here today...

10 minutes to go

Oooooo, are we excited?

If some of you have thought now, after reading that, I am very disappointed in you. This is a big game; you should be buzzing.

Well, I, for one, am.

The warm-ups have just finished, teh players are back in the dressing rooms, and it's nearly go time.

Let's hope it's a cracking night.

No extra-time tonight

Hallelujah.

If you read my blogs, you will know just how much I dislike extra time, so I am buzzing to say that there will be none of it tonight, even if this final ends in a draw.

If it does end all square, we will go straight to penalties just like we did in the Community Shield.

They need to adopt this in all competitions, in my opinion.

Enrique the Lilywhite

Imagine if Luis Enrique ended up being Tottenham boss...

I'd like to say he would have led them to the Champions League like he did for PSG, but come on, let's be real, we all know what Spurs does to managers.

It breaks them.

That may sound dramatic, but look at what id did to Ange Postecoglou. Yes, he may have ended Spurs' 17-year trophy drought, but look at what last season led him to say. He was not a happy man for the majority of it.

Then there was Antonio Conte and Jose Mourinho. This club has chewed up and spat out top managers.

It may just have done the same to Enrique.

'Enrique could have been Spurs boss'

By Matt Barlow At The Bluenergy Stadium

Luis Enrique did admit on the eve of the game that he had a chance to join Spurs in 2023, just before accepting the PSG job... Arne Slot also turned it down that year.
Big Ange came in and won the Europa League in his second season... they have all won major trophies since. Levy's shortlist was decent...

Atmosphere building

This stadium may only seat 30,000 people, but it sounds like there is around 60K in here right now.

It's so blooming loud, already...

Honestly, I can barely hear myself think because of teh PSG ultras. They always bring the atmosphere, and tonight it's no different.

The best fans in teh biz when it comes to chanting.

Welcome home, Vicario!

By Matt Barlow At The Bluenergy Stadium

Warm welcome in the sultry heat of Udine for Guglielmo Vicario, back in his home town as a Europa League winner. He spoke of his pride on the eve of this game and is now going through his prematch kicking exercises. He might be kicking it long more often under Frank then under Ange Postecoglou...

'I like Frank'

I like Thomas Frank, he needs good players and they've got a lot of good players. I think Tottenham will do okay this year. I think Tottenham could finish in the top six. I like the look of them. They look decent and have made a couple of signings. Keeping everybody fit is the key this year for them.
I know they've lost James Maddison, which is an early blow, but they brought in Joao Palhinha from Bayern Munich so I think they'll do fine. I think they'll be strong this year, Tottenham, they'll do well in the league and maybe win the Carabao Cup or whatever might be on the agenda for them. It's a great club, a big club, and I think they'll have a good season.

Historic day for Frank

It really is a day of firsts.

First meeting, first Spurs Super Cup final... and now this stat.

Tonight, Thomas Frank becomes the first manager whose first game in charge of an English club has been in the UEFA Super Cup.

Can he start life off at Spurs with silverware? Imagine.

A first meeting

This has baffled me...

This is the first time that PSG and Tottenham have ever played each other in a competitive setting.

Surely that start can't be right? They have to have met at some point across teh past decade in Europe, right?

Wrong. No matter how much it blows my mind, the stat is true. This is their first-ever meeting.

Mental, just mental.

Big night for Zaire-Emery

When Warren Zaire-Emery made his debut at 16 years old, everybody just assumed he was going to gop on and be a star.

But the last couple of years have not been easy for the youngster.

Zaire-Emery has really struggled for minutes due to the sheer brilliance of Joao Neves and Vitinha; there is just rarely space for him in PSG's mega midfield.

But tonight, he gets his chance.

It's easy to forget that he is just 19 and still has his whole career ahead of him. The Super Cup may just see it reignite.

'Back three for Spurs'

By Matt Barlow At The Bluenergy Stadium

More than a hint of back three about that Spurs team... Thomas Frank and Ben Davies both alluded to the idea there might be a match specific plan to cope with the attacking power of PSG.
Frank names three centre halves and two full backs, assuming Spence plays on the left, where he is more than capable. Three in midfield with Kudus off Richarlison up front...

PSG Team News - Zaire-Emery STARTS

Interesting, very interesting...

Luis Enrique is really not holding back tonight; it's all-out attack mode for PSG.

Desire Doue, Bradley Barcola, Ousmane Dembele, and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia are all starting.

Joao Neves is suspended after picking up a red card up in the Club World Cup final, and Fabian is on the bench, so Warren Zaire-Emery comes into this super team.

Frank: 'There have to be consequences'

Thomas Frank, Tottenham boss, speaking on Bissouma's absence:

Bissouma isn't here because of disciplinary reasons. He has been late several times, the latest one too many.
We need to give love and have demands, but there have to be consequences. There's been a consequence; we will follow it up when we get home and park it for now.

Bissouma banished... for tonight

Did you guys notice that Yves Bissouma is not in the Spurs squad?

Well, if you didn't, now you know. He ain't here.

Thomas Frank has left him at home because of persistent lateness. The Dane is clearly making a statement; he has standards, and they need to be met by players.

Bissouma hasn't exactly been balling out for Spurs since he joined from Brighton in 2022, so maybe this will kick his bottom into gear.

Frank is showing that he is to create a winning culture.

Family comes first for Levy

By Matt Barlow At The Bluenergy Stadium

Chairman Daniel Levy does not miss many Spurs games but he will not be in Udine for the UEFA Super Cup final against Paris Saint-Germain and with good reason.
Levy is in the United States where his daughter is starting university. CEO Vinai Venkatesham will represent the club at the post match trophy presentation.

Spice Boys 2.0

Oooft, I'm not sure about this look.

This is giving me Liverpool 1996 FA Cup final vibes, which is not a good thing if you know what they wore that day.

Spurs' stars could have certainly been dressed better for this final. Without the jacket, they don't look too bad, but with it... yikes.

Anyway, they are in Udine, and that's all that matters.

Tottenham Team News - Palhinha STARTS

Oh boy, this could be a long night for Tottenham, looking at this team.

Is that harsh to say?

New signings Palhinha and Mohammad Kudus make their first competitive starts for the club, which is a positive.

However, Richarlison starts up top with Dominic Solanke on teh bench due to lack of game time.

I'm not sure about that front line, but there we are.

'I am disappointed'

Ah man, this is tough.

Here is that social media post I was on about, and you can see just how hurt Gianluigi Donnarumma is from all of this.

The man who made a huge contribution to PSG's Champions League-winning campaign has just been tossed aside.

Brutal.

Donnarumma dumped

Gianluigi Donnarumma must feel like a guy who has just been dumped by the best girlfriend he has ever had.

Time to get the Ben and Jerry's out, if you know what I mean?

Luis Enrique has left the Italian out of his squad for teh Super Cup tonight, with Lucas Chevalier and Renato Marin the two goalkeepers travelling, because he is looking for a 'different profile of keeper'.

Donnrumme is 'disheartened' by being dropped, and has since released a social media post like a celebrity does when they have been broken up with.

I will share that in the next post... It's kind of long.

Frank: 'The right time is now '

Thomas Frank, Tottenham boss, speaking on Tuesday:

We have had a more normal pre-season which is what I think every coach would prefer. Over a whole season, they are probably in a better place to perform better but for one game we will be ready. I think for the club, for the team, for me, for everybody involved at Tottenham Hotspur, it's a massive game.
A great challenge and an even bigger opportunity. That's how my brain works, I see opportunities instead of pressure or whatever. So for me, massive opportunity and we will definitely embrace it and we will do everything.
The right time is now so we need to be ready. I can't postpone it for six weeks unless you have a plan for that. For me, now is the right time. We're ready. It's fair to say they are probably a little bit further down the line in terms of their highest performance level. I am 100 per cent sure it will be super competitive tomorrow in the game but overall of course over a whole season their best players performed better. But in one game, we will be ready.

New era for Spurs

It's a new dawn, it's a new day, it's a new life... for Spurs.

Sorry, I just can't help myself; the song puns are just pouring out of me today.

Tonight is the first time that Thomas Frank will lead Spurs out for a competitive match after taking over from Ange Postecoglou following the end of last season.

And he has teh chance to win silverware in his very first game.

This is uncharted territory for Tottenham; they have never been a part of a UEFA Super Cup final, so I'm sure many of the players may be a bit sheepish. But these boys have earned the right to be here, and now they need to show what they are about.

Their pre-season was far from ideal, losing to Bayern Munich 4-0 in their last game, but that's to be expected. After the season they had last season, you can't expect them to just win games against teh big boys because Frank is now in charge.

That being said, they can certainly give it a crack. I mean, what have they got to lose?

It will be interesting to see how they look tonight...

Enrique: 'It's going to be difficult'

Luis Enrique, PSG boss, speaking on Tuesday:

It's difficult because they recently changed their manager. Some new players - they played a few friendly matches before [the Super Cup].
I don't know what kind of game they are going to plan. It's going to be difficult because they have been training for the last month and we are in our first week but it is not an excuse. We are going to try and compete and do our best.

Will PSG bounce back?

I know, I know, this seems like an odd sub-heading considering the 2024-25 season that PSG had.

They won the Champions League for the very first time, something their owners have dreamt of for over a decade, and one two domestic trophies. Not exactly something you need to bounce back from.

But, just bear with me.

The last time we saw PSG in a competitive game, they were torn apart by a Chelsea side that everybody just assumed they would beat, or even batter, in teh Club World Cup final.

I covered teh game and I'm pretty sure I was rendered speechless by half-time, which is pretty abnormal for me. The Parisians just couldn't live with the Blues; they were schooled.

That day proved that PSG were beatable, and they didn't take it well. Luis Enrique even hit Joao Pedro after full-time.

Today they will want to show that it was a one-off, and that they remain teh best team in Europe. Enrique will want to make a statement without using his hands.

Will we see the PSG that smashed Inter, or crumbled to Chelsea?

Super Cup Showdown

Are you ready, are you ready for... the Super Cup?

I have been listening to a lot of Elton John lately - his music is literally in my ears as I type this opening post - so I thought I would incorporate some of his music into the blog. Why not?

It's a feel-good tune, and boy, do I feel good about what we have in store for you tonight.

We had the English football curtain raiser on Sunday, now it's time for the opening scene of the European football show. Let's hope we are in for an entertaining start, like we were at Wembley.

Last season's Champions League winners, PSG, take on the reigning Europa League champions Tottenham (yes, they really did win a trophy last season) at the Blunergy Stadium in Udine, Italy.

Pre-season is well and truly over now, folks; this is where the fun truly begins.

Grab yourself a drink, some snacks, and enjoy the show.
