TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Ministry of Tourism projects that the number of tourists will increase during the Christmas and New Year holidays this year. Therefore, the ministry urges tourism operators and tourists to maintain cleanliness while on vacation.
"We encourage clean tourism activities, said the chair of the Tourism Crisis Management team of the ministry, Danesta Febrianto Nugroho, to the media crew on Tuesday, December 10, 2024. “Be responsible of the waste [you] produce during tourism activities.”
Danesta also urges people to travel domestically to boost economic growth. The ministry also targets the increase in number of visits from foreign travelers and domestic travelers by boosting the promotion of the “Bangga Berwisata di Indonesia” campaign, or “Proud of Traveling in Indonesia.”
Statistics Indonesia (BPS) recorded that the number of domestic travelers grew by 12.37 percent to 825.8 million in 2023. This trend is also in line with the digital survey findings, Jakpat, which found that Millennials and Gen Z in the country prefer domestic travel for "healing," culinary exploration, or adventures with friends.
Acting Deputy for Marketing of the Ministry of Tourism Ni Made Ayu Marthini said the ministry has targeted domestic tourist mobility to reach 1.08 billion, and foreign tourists between 17 million and 18 million. From these numbers, it is expected to contribute to 4.6 percent of GDP, with tourism revenue reaching US$22.1-25.2 billion.
"We will achieve these targets by strengthening the Proud of Traveling in Indonesia program with the hashtag ‘Di Indonesia Aja’,” said Made.
Made said the central government is pushing local governments and the industries to be more active in innovating and creating tourism packages and targets moments like school holidays and low season.
