TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The inauguration of the President-elect and Vice President-elect, Prabowo Subianto and Gibran Rakabuming Raka, will be held on Sunday, October 20, 2024.

The Prabowo-Gibran pair was declared the winner of the 2024 presidential election after garnering 96,214,691 votes in one round, as they received 58.59 percent of the valid votes nationwide. Their votes surpassed those of two rival tickets, the Anies Baswedan-Muhaimin Iskandar and Ganjar Pranowo-Mahfud Md pairs.

Ahead of the Prabowo-Gibran inauguration, let's explore the preparations.

1. Guests

Chairman of the People's Consultative Assembly or MPR, Ahmad Muzani, said his office had invited leaders of friendly countries. He said they had coordinated with security forces and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

"Invitations for VVIP guests are being validated and the number will continue to increase, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in this case, has also prepared itself for the invitations. Almost all ASEAN leaders will attend," said Muzani at the complex of the parliament building, Senayan, Jakarta, on Tuesday, October 15, 2024.

2. Location

The swearing-in ceremony by the elected president and vice president will be held in a Plenary Session of the People's Consultative Assembly (MPR) in the Parliament Complex, Senayan, Central Jakarta.

3. President and Vice President Inauguration Process

The inauguration of the president and vice-president begins with the plenary session of the MPR, which is attended by all MPR members, high-ranking government officials, and invited guests from domestic and foreign parties. The event will then continue with the swearing-in of the elected president and vice president.

After being sworn in, the President and Vice President will sign the Inaugural Document as an official confirmation of their positions.

The president-elect will then have the opportunity to deliver a speech to the MPR general assembly.

After the entire inauguration ceremony is completed, the MPR chairperson will officially close the plenary session.

The inauguration at the MPR building is usually followed by a symbolic ceremony at the State Palace. An official procession is held at the Palace to welcome the newly inaugurated President and Vice President.

The commander of the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI), General Agus Subiyanto, stated that they would deploy 100,000 personnel for the security of the presidential inauguration.

The TNI also prepared a task force in the form of the Presidential Security Forces (Paspampres), consisting of snipers and anti-drone units, to secure the VVIP participants in Ring 1. Meanwhile, security in rings 2 and 3 will be under the supervision of the TNI and the police.

In addition, the TNI headquarters will deploy forces from three armed forces, namely the army, navy and air force, to secure the inauguration events for the 2024-2029 presidential term. Each task force will have specific roles such as surveillance, patrolling, and VIP/VVIP security.

5. Traffic Engineering

The National Police Chief, General Listyo Sigit Prabowo, stated that they will carry out traffic engineering. The four-star general mentioned that this measure is to anticipate the surge in traffic volume.

He received information that the public will welcome the presence of former president Joko Widodo, also known as Jokowi, and Prabowo, who will take the presidential oath at the parliament (MPR-DPR) building.

"There will be traffic engineering at the departure points of the president to the parliament building and vice versa," he said in Jakarta, on Friday, October 18, 2024.

6. National Broadcast

The inauguration of the President and Vice President will be broadcast live by various national media, both on television and online platforms. This will allow people across Indonesia to witness this historic moment.
