TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Attorney General's Office (AGO) has denied allegations of criminalizing former Trade Minister Thomas Trikasih Lembong, also known as Tom Lembong, in a corruption case of sugar imports.
“There are rumors that we're criminalizing him, but our actions and the evidence are all clear,” said Sutikno, Director of Prosecution for Special Crimes at the AGO, during a press conference at the South Jakarta State Court on Tuesday, November 26, 2024.
He emphasized that the evidence, not the AGO, explains the facts of the case. “There's no way we are criminalizing someone. We're at an age where we know where our next life will be,” he added.
Sutikno urged the public to respect the ongoing legal process and called on both the AGO and Tom Lembong to present compelling evidence during the main trial.
On Tuesday, November 26, 2024, Judge Tumpanuli Marbun of the South Jakarta State Court rejected Tom Lembong's pretrial motion. “The applicant's pretrial motion is rejected in its entirety,” the judge ruled.
The judge's decision was based on the fact that investigators from the AGO’s Special Crimes Deputy had at least two pieces of evidence to support Tom Lembong's designation as a suspect. The judge also confirmed that the suspect designation was carried out in accordance with proper procedures.
