TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Airline flights operated by AirAsia to and from Labuan Bajo are affected by the eruption of Mount Lewotobi since Monday, November 4, 2024, due to the eruption of Mount Lewotobi in East Flores, East Nusa Tenggara. This situation has forced AirAsia to postpone and cancel flights for a week because it's not safe.
This decision is based on Notam No: A3548/24 NOTAMR A3547/24 and A3554/24 NOTAMR A3548/24, which are the basis for AirAsia management to postpone and cancel flights. "AirAsia understands that this causes inconvenience to all passengers. However, this decision is made to ensure the safety of passengers and crew. Further, we will provide periodic updates on the latest flight schedules," said Corporate Communications Manager of Indonesia AirAsia, Ageng Wibowo Leksono, in a written statement on Sunday, November 10, 2024.
Some of the affected AirAsia flights include: QZ 860 Jakarta-Labuan Bajo route, QZ 861 Labuan Bajo-Jakarta route, QZ 646 & QZ 642 Bali-Labuan Bajo route, QZ 647 & QZ 643 Labuan Bajo-Bali route, AK 336 Kuala Lumpur-Labuan Bajo route and AK 337 Labuan Bajo-Kuala Lumpur route.
Ageng stated that safety evaluations of flights are continuously conducted by all relevant parties. He mentioned that while evaluating, all parties are also awaiting the developments of Mount Lewotobi and the results of volcanic ash paper tests.
"Indonesia AirAsia management is also collaborating with relevant parties in preparing several scenarios to mitigate the impact of flights if this situation continues in the coming days," he said.
Indonesia AirAsia strives to provide the best service for affected passengers by offering the following options:
- Move Flight or reschedule within the next 30 days from the cancellation date with no additional fees,
- Passengers can choose Credit Point AirAsia, or
- Passengers can request a Full Refund (according to the original payment method).
Ageng mentioned that to choose any of the above options, passengers whose flights are affected can use the AirAsia MOVE app (formerly AirAsia Superapp) or Ask Bo through the following link: https://support.airasia.com/s/?language=in.
"Indonesia AirAsia continues to strive to achieve the highest safety standards in all operations and would like to thank passengers for their continued trust in Indonesia AirAsia," he said.
