TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Jakarta Regional Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD) is conducting weather modification technology from November 26-28, 2024 to anticipate the potential extreme weather that could disrupt the regional election.

Isnawa Adji, head of the BPBD in Jakarta, explained that the weather modification technology is a mitigation measure to reduce high rainfall that could cause flooding, especially in strategic areas and polling stations.

"This program also aims to cope with the impact of rainfall from the 13 rivers that cross Jakarta, which are largely influenced by weather conditions in Banten and West Java provinces," Isnawa said in Jakarta on Tuesday, November 26, 2024, as quoted by Antara.

The weather modification is made possible thanks to the coordination by BPBD, the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG), the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB), and various related parties.

The implementation of the weather modification is scheduled for three days, covering pre-election, election day, and post-election. This activity is carried out by cloud seeding using specific materials to induce rain in predetermined areas, thereby diverting rainfall from flood-prone areas.
