TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure, Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono or AHY, stated that the government will reduce domestic airfares for the Christmas and New Year holidays. AHY even said that the price reduction could be up to 10 percent.

"It's important to reduce ticket prices to help our people and also to stimulate the economy, including tourism," AHY said at the Presidential Palace complex in Jakarta on Tuesday, November 26, after a meeting with President Prabowo Subianto.

According to AHY, the plan to reduce flight ticket prices had been discussed with various parties, including the Ministry of Transportation. The son of Indonesia's sixth president, Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, hopes that state-owned enterprises, especially airlines, will understand this policy to help people planning to travel during the Christmas and New Year holidays.

Transportation Minister Dudy Purwaghandi said the ticket price reduction would apply to 19 major airports. Without providing a complete list, Dudy said that the airports included Soekarno-Hatta and Denpasar, Bali.

"Yes, everything related to the costs incurred in the airports. Then there's Avtur, where Pertamina has been successful in lowering prices," Dudy said.

President Prabowo gathered several ministers from the Red and White Cabinet for a closed-door meeting at the Presidential Palace today to discuss preparations for Christmas and New Year. In addition to transportation issues, the meeting also discussed stock and food management.

Previously, on Friday, November 22, 2024, Minister of Human Development and Culture Pratikno chaired a Ministerial Level Meeting (MLM) in preparation for Christmas 2024 & New Year 2025.

The former State Secretary Minister stated that the peak of the Christmas and New Year exodus is predicted to occur on December 24, 2024, while the return peak is on January 2, 2025.

Cited by Antara, the Ministry of Transportation previously estimated the number of passengers during the Christmas and New Year holidays would reach 3,912,224 passengers (3,048,148 domestic and 864,076 international). This figure is 4 percent higher compared to the previous period.

The outbound or year-end holiday peak is estimated to begin on December 21, 2024 (Christmas period) with a projection of 297,129 passengers (240,413 domestic and 56,716 international) and on December 28, 2024 (New Year's period) to reach 260,196 passengers (202,873 domestic and 57,323 international).

The return peak is estimated on January 3, 2025 (Christmas and New Year period) reaching 259,816 passengers (202,820 domestic and 56,996 international).
