TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - IPB University has inaugurated the Agri-Photovoltaic Research Station in the Educational Garden of Cikabayan, the IPB Campus Dramaga, Bogor, Indonesia. Inaugurated on November 22, this unit is the first of its kind in Indonesia to integrate agriculture with solar energy.

With a capacity of 50,000 watts, this system utilizes sunlight for agriculture while generating electricity. This station is also equipped with artificial intelligence (AI) technology. The electricity generated is used to power electric vehicles and will be utilized to support the operation of the planned smart greenhouse at the Cikabayan Educational Garden.

The Rector of IPB University, Arif Satria, stated that IPB University continues to adapt to global challenges through innovative policies that address the needs of the Industry 4.0 Revolution era. He mentioned that this era is characterized by the development of new technologies, such as AI, big data, and other technologies. "Therefore, IPB University strives to contribute through educational innovation and global collaboration," said Arif in a written statement on Wednesday, November 27, 2024.

Arif further explained that in response to these challenges, IPB University is also reforming its education system by establishing new study programs, such as the Smart Agriculture Program.

He added that one of the supporting education initiatives is the construction of a smart greenhouse at the Leuwikopo Experimental Garden of IPB University and the development of the Agri-Photovoltaic Research Station. "Thanks to Korea for the great support for various innovation programs at IPB University," he said.

The CEO of Envelops Co, Sung Yong, stated that the Agri-Photovoltaic project is proof of strong collaboration and innovation in facing climate change challenges. He mentioned that this project can also reduce greenhouse gas emissions by utilizing renewable energy and improving efficiency in the agricultural sector.

"Congratulations on the launch of the Agri-Photovoltaic at IPB University, which provides innovative learning tools to support the development of smart agriculture technology in the future," he added.

The Manager of Agri-Photovoltaic, who is also the Secretary of the Center for Regional Planning and Development Studies (P4W) of IPB University, Bambang Hendro Trisasongko, stated that this target is in line with IPB University's vision to achieve sustainability in three main aspects, namely food, energy, and water (FEW). "For the use of electricity, we will use 30,000 watts for the greenhouse and 20,000 watts for electric vehicles," he said.
