TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Financial Services Authority or OJK revealed that seven million data from Indonesian agencies were exposed on dark web sites. The figure was disclosed by the Chair of the Audit Board and Member of the OJK Board of Commissioners, Sophia Wattimena, who quoted the report from the National Cyber and Crypto Agency (BSSN).
Sophia stated that cybersecurity is one of the main challenges currently faced by Indonesia when opening the Risk & Governance Summit 2024 held by OJK in Jakarta on Tuesday, November 26, 2024. "According to the BSSN report as of September 2024, there are seven million exposed data on the dark web from more than 450 affected agencies. About three percent of these are from the financial sector," Sophia said, as monitored from the live broadcast on the OJK YouTube channel.
The report she cited was the 2023 Annual Report and the September 2024 Public Monthly Report from BSSN. The OJK audit boss stated that the authority continues to strengthen the industry by building a secure digital infrastructure. Some of the actions taken by OJK include issuing OJK Regulation No. 11 of 2022 concerning Information Technology Implementation by Commercial Banks. The regulation covers aspects of data, technology, risk management, collaboration, and the institutional framework of banks.
Furthermore, she continued, OJK also has OJK Regulation No. 4 of 2021 regarding the Implementation of Risk Management in the Use of Information Technology by Non-Bank Financial Institutions. The regulation considers the risks of using information technology for non-bank financial institutions.
OJK has also released cybersecurity guidelines for financial technology innovation providers (ITSK), as well as a code of ethics for the use of artificial intelligence (AI). "This is done to address the issue of declining digital trust," she said, using the 2024 Edelman Trust Barometer as a source.
Based on the 2024 Edelman Trust Barometer survey, there is a trend showing a decline in digital trust globally. This survey was conducted online and completed by more than 32,000 respondents from 28 countries, with over 1,150 respondents per country.
