The Jakarta Environmental Agency deployed 1,800 sanitation workers to several crucial points in the city in anticipation of the 80th Indonesian Independence Day (HUT ke-80 RI) on Sunday, August 17, 2025. The Head of the Jakarta Environmental Agency, Asep Kuswanto, stated that various facilities and infrastructure to anticipate waste had been prepared a day before the Independence Day commemoration.
"An event of this magnitude requires extra preparation, not only in terms of the number of workers, but also the strategic placement of equipment and waste management throughout the event," he said in a statement on Friday, August 15, 2025.
From August 15th to 17th, workers will operate from morning till night at crowded locations, including the Heroes Cemetery Park in Kalibata (South Jakarta), the National Monument (Monas) area and Jakarta City Hall (Central Jakarta), and along the carnival route on Sudirman-Thamrin Road (Central Jakarta).
When broken down, the Jakarta Government deployed 400 personnel from the Jakarta Central Environmental Agency, not including 200 personnel from the North, West, East, and South Jakarta Environmental Sub-Agencies. There were also 500 personnel from the Waste Management Unit of the Jakarta Water Body and 100 personnel from the Integrated Waste Management Unit.
"The clear target is a festive celebration without leaving behind a trace of waste," Asep added.
The Environmental Agency also prepared sanitation teams in the Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (UMKM) tents inside Monas. Similar preparations were made outside Monas, such as in Sunda Street, Pamekasan Street, Tanjung Karang Street, Galunggung Street, Karet Pasar Baru Timur III Street, and Danantara Residence.
Other supporting facilities provided separately include 20 mobile toilets, 14 road sweepers, 12 compactor trucks, 12 inorganic waste trucks, 65 dustbins, and hundreds of plastic bags. Road sweepers are focused in the Monas area and along the carnival route.
The Environmental Agency also prepared sanitation facilities distributed at various points. There were 10 mobile toilets in Monas, 3 in front of Hotel Kempinski, 3 in front of Hotel Pullman, 2 in Sumenep Park, and one each in Dukuh Atas and the Sampoerna Strategic office building.
