TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The police are still investigating the motive behind the shooting of Rudi S. Gani, 49, a lawyer in Bone Regency, South Sulawesi. Rudi was reportedly shot dead at his home on New Year's Eve.
Head of Public Relations of the South Sulawesi Police, Senior Commissioner Didik Supranoto, said that he had examined 11 witnesses. They consisted of the victim's family members and several neighbors. "The victim was indeed a lawyer, but whether it was related to his profession, that cannot be confirmed because the perpetrator is still being pursued," said Didik, Saturday, January 4, 2025.
Based on the family's statement, Didik said that the victim was indeed handling several cases. Among them are land disputes, divorce, and criminal cases. "The investigation process is still ongoing. The motive for this shooting will be clear if the perpetrator has been arrested," he said.
The shooting incident occurred at 21:50 WITA (Central Indonesian Time), January 31, 2024. That night, Rudi and his family were in the living room and were having dinner. Based on witness statements, before Rudi lay covered in blood, gunshots were heard from outside the house.
The victim's house was under construction at the time. The perpetrator is suspected of having more freedom to determine the shooting distance and target. "Because it is still under construction, the door and glass have not been installed," said Didik. The police found an 8-millimeter caliber projectile lodged in the victim's back neck bone. Based on examination in the forensic laboratory, the projectile was used for an air rifle.
