TEMPO.CO, JakartaSouth Korean authorities on Saturday arrested a second military general over his alleged role in President Yoon Suk Yeol’s brief martial law declaration earlier this month, local media reported.

Prosecutors arrested Lieutenant General Yeo In-hyung, head of the Defense Counterintelligence Command, on charges of ordering the arrest of 14 people, including leaders of the ruling and main opposition parties, as well as the procurement of a computer server at the election commission, Yonhap news agency reported, as cited by Anadolu.

The arrests came after Lieutenant General Lee Jin-woo, head of the capital’s defense command, was detained on Friday, and former Defense Minister Kim Yong-hyun was formally arrested on Wednesday.

At least six military commanders, including the joint chiefs of staff, have been suspended over their alleged involvement in helping Yoon’s martial law, while several others are currently under investigation.

Yoon declared martial law on Tuesday night, Dec. 3. However, just hours later, 190 lawmakers met and passed a motion to revoke the decision, forcing him to revoke the martial law.

The incident prompted calls for Yoon to resign, including from members of his People Power Party.

On Saturday, South Korea’s parliament passed a motion to impeach Yoon and suspend him from office. Yoon’s fate is now in the hands of the Constitutional Court, which will decide whether to remove him.

The 63-year-old leader is the first president to face charges of treason and rebellion, as well as a travel ban. Yoon Suk Yeol is also facing potential arrest.
