TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The President of the United States, Donald Trump, announced that he will meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin on Tuesday, March 18, 2025. The meeting will discuss efforts to end the conflict in Ukraine. This announcement follows a series of positively described talks between officials of both countries in Moscow.

"I'll be speaking to President Putin on Tuesday. A lot of work's been done over the weekend," said Trump to reporters on Air Force One as he returned to Washington from Florida, cited from Reuters. "We want to see if we can bring that war to an end. Maybe we can, maybe we can't, but I think we have a very good chance."

The discussions will focus on a proposed 30-day ceasefire accepted by Ukraine, while both parties continue heavy air strikes. Russia is also getting closer to driving Ukrainian forces out of the Kursk region in western Russia, where Ukraine has held its ground for months.

When asked about concessions being considered in the negotiations, Trump mentioned, "We'll be talking about land. We'll be talking about power plants." He added, "We're already talking about that, dividing up certain assets."

Trump stated that much progress had been made on this issue over the weekend while he was in Florida. He returned to the White House in the early hours of Monday after landing at Joint Base Andrews.

The U.S. President has shifted American policy closer to Moscow, previously stating that Ukraine was more difficult to work with than Russia. Last month, Trump had a controversial meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, who left the White House earlier than scheduled.

However, Ukraine's acceptance of the proposed ceasefire has shifted the responsibility to Russia to respond to Trump's demands. This situation will test the U.S. president's positive view of Putin, who invaded Ukraine three years ago.
