TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) reported that the flash floods that hit Deli Serdang Regency, North Sumatra, on Saturday, November 23, 2024, at 19:00 local time, has caused the death of four residents in Dusun Dua, Martelu Village, Sibolangit District, and two individuals missing.
Based on the report received by BNPB, the four deceased individuals are Kartini Sitepu (65/female), Elsie Nadinda Rahel Simajuntak (3/female), Br Ginting (81/female), and Perdamenta (35).
"Two individuals are still reported missing, namely Budi Utama Simanjuntak (30/male) and Gerge Barus (40/male)," said the Head of Data, Information, and Disaster Communication Center of BNPB, Abdul Muhari, in a written statement on Sunday, November 25, 2024.
In addition to the above data, according to Muhari, nine residents suffered injuries, one place of worship and four residential houses were severely damaged due to the floodwaters.
Muhari mentioned that the current condition of the floods has subsided and the search efforts for the two missing individuals are still ongoing. "The Regional Disaster Management Agency of Deli Serdang Regency, together with the TNI, Polri, and all elements of the Regional Leadership Coordination Forum have coordinated for loss assessment, handling of affected residents, and deepening the chronology of this incident," he said.
Based on the forecast of the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG), the weather in Martelu Village, Sibolangit District, is predicted to be partly cloudy with light rain for the next three days.
Muhari requested the joint search and rescue team, the local government, and surrounding communities to always be vigilant and cautious due to the changing weather conditions that may occur at any time.
