TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Head of the National Nutrition Agency, Dadan Hindayana, said his agency has designated 932 locations across Indonesia for Prabowo Subianto’s free meal program. The program is set to run from January 2, 2025.
"It will gradually reach 932 locations,” Dadan said on Monday, November 25, 2024. Dadan ensured that the program would reach every region in Indonesia, albeit in a gradual stage.
Meanwhile, the National Nutrition Agency has also targeted the free nutritious meal program to serve 82.9 million individuals, which includes pregnant people, breastfeeding mothers, toddlers, to high school students.
The agency head also said that the free meal program is the government’s effort to invest in human resources. He said the program is not merely about food but for children to have balanced nutrition.
"We prepare a balanced menu with balanced ideas for children to eat," said Dadan.
The free meal program is intended to address some critical issues the country currently faces, which occur during pregnancy and when children reach three to five years old.
According to Dadan, the Indonesian government is addressing these two problems to ensure that children in Indonesia have a strong physique. Dadan stated that besides preventing stunting, continuous nutritional provision for children must be facilitated by the state.
"If we only address stunting, will the children reach optimal health? It’s not enough, we must continue to provide them with balanced nutrition," he said.
Dadan mentioned that the government must provide various interventions so children in Indonesia can grow into an adept generation to reach the 2045 Golden Indonesia goal.
