TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Finance Minister Sri Mulyani Indrawati is ensuring that Indonesia's agricultural sector will be a priority for the smooth implementation of President Prabowo Subianto's food security program. According to Sri Mulyani, this is because the total government expenditure in 2025 has increased by 8.9 percent for the program.
"The government and the House of Representatives have agreed on the state budget for 2025 of Rp3621.3 trillion. For the central government budget, it reaches Rp2701.4 trillion, which is allocated to advance the government's priority programs, including food security," the minister said in an official statement on Tuesday, December 10, 2024.
Prabowo's flagship programs which will be implemented in 2025 using the State Income and Expenditure Budget (APBN) include the free nutritious meal program and the government's efforts to implement a national food barn at the district or village level, Sri Mulyani explained.
"The President's directives on the government's program priorities and focus will continue to guide the allocation and reallocation of ministries and agencies' budgets," she said.
Sri Mulyani hopes that the budget implementation lists (DIPA) for each ministry and agency can be implemented promptly so that the people can optimally feel the impact and benefits in early 2025.
"It is expected that the DIPA of the ministry and the allocation lists for the regions in 2025 will be completed and implemented promptly so that the people and the economy can immediately feel the maximum benefits at the beginning of the year," said Sri Mulyani.
Minister of Agriculture Andi Amran Sulaiman said that the total budget allocation for the Ministry of Agriculture in 2025 is Rp29.37 trillion. He mentioned that this total includes an additional allocation of Rp21.47 trillion. Amran Sulaiman mentioned that part of this budget will be focused on supporting food self-sufficiency amounting to Rp23.61 trillion.
He stated that this self-sufficiency program will optimize land or areas that will enter the intensification phase. Meanwhile, for the establishment of new rice fields, it will enter the extensification phase.
Amran revealed that the establishment of new rice fields and the intensification area will be carried out in different regions in Indonesia. He mentioned that these areas include Merauke Regency, South Papua, Central Kalimantan, South Kalimantan, and South Sumatra.
The Minister claimed that his office has formed a food self-sufficiency brigade consisting of 15 millennial farmers to cultivate 200 hectares of land. "We will provide grants for mechanization equipment, seeds, fertilizers, and advice with a total budget of Rp3 billion per brigade," Amran Sulaiman said in an official statement on Wednesday, December 11, 2024.
He targets that the ministry's program can increase Indonesia's agricultural production in 2025. The target is to produce 32.83 million tons of rice.
"We are also targeting the production of corn and other strategic commodities. We are optimistic that the self-sufficiency program as outlined in the President's grand vision can be realized quickly," he said.
