TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian National Police's Counter-Terrorism Unit, Densus 88, captured three individuals suspected of terrorism on Thursday, December 19. One of them has been on the run for 11 years.
The arrests, carried out in collaboration with the Mobile Brigade Corps (Brimob) of the Central Sulawesi Police, took place in the cities of Palu and Ampana, located within Tojo Una-Una Regency.
Antara reported on Thursday that one of the suspects, identified as Wawan, also known as Mut, was arrested in Palu. Meanwhile, two other individuals, identified by their initials AS and RR, were detained in Ampana. All three are believed to be involved with the East Indonesia Mujahideen (MIT) network.
Wawan was captured at his relative’s residence in Baiya Village, Tawaeli District, Palu City, where he had been residing for the past month. He had been on the police's most-wanted list (DPO) and was a fugitive for 11 years.
Densus 88 secured several pieces of evidence, including a bag, a mobile phone, and identification cards.
Adi Suwarman, the neighborhood chief of Baiya Village's RT 005/RW 003, stated that he was unaware of Wawan's presence in the area during his stay. "Wawan's family never informed the local neighborhood association about his residing here," he said on Thursday, December 19.
