TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Former Minister of Communication and Information (Kominfo) Budi Arie Setiadi denied reports that he was questioned by the National Police Criminal Investigation Agency (Bareskrim) regarding an alleged corruption case on Thursday, December 19, 2024.
“Hoax, it’s about online gambling,” Budi Arie said via WhatsApp on Thursday, December 19, 2024, when contacted by Tempo regarding the reports.
He clarified that his appearance at the Bareskrim was related to an ongoing investigation into an online gambling case involving employees of the Ministry of Communication and Digital (Komdigi/then Kominfo).
Earlier, Director of the Special Criminal Investigation Directorate of the Metro Jaya Police, Sr. Comr. Ade Safri Simanjuntak, said that Budi Arie's questioning was not related to the online gambling case.
“Investigators from the Directorate of Special Criminal Investigation of the Metro Jaya Police are investigating alleged corruption that occurred within the Ministry,” he said on Thursday, December 19, 2024.
Ade said that in addition to Budi Arie, investigators have examined 26 witnesses in the same case. The investigation focuses on allegations of bribery and/or gratification by state officials at the Ministry between 2022 and 2024.
This investigation stems from a recent online gambling case involving Kominfo employees.
Budi Arie was questioned by investigators on Thursday, December 19, 2024, at the Bareskrim building. “Investigators asked 18 questions during the examination,” the Metro Jaya Police spokesperson Comr. Ade Ary said. The former minister arrived at the Bareskrim building at 10:50 a.m. and the examination concluded at 05:13 p.m.
